Flashing It

Based on the kind of websites I have been looking at for inspiration, I have decided to take the challenge of attempting to create the entire website in flash. Because I’m used to creating websites using Photoshop, I figured that this would be a better chance than ever to have a go at creating a flash website. Besides from my research into website and website design, a lot of web-designers who create websites purely for artistic entertainment or fall between the lines of web art and design are in fact constructed using flash. This is largely due to the ActionScripting features within flash, which allows for the generation of animations and effects between transitions, which are generally static or simple when creating conventional websites.

So by creating the website using Flash, the site will be more visually effective as well as allow me to portray my concept more effectively

Some Flash Site I drew inspiration from:

sofake.com - through transitions creates depth within the page. Simple yet so effective.
leo burnett - utilises the 3D space of the page.
Facing New York Website - a Flash based website that uses the zoom transition effect to generate an amazing site.

spaces in between

Having talked to a few people about my concept, I realised that I myself did not have a solid understanding of where I was heading. I knew how I wanted the end result to look, without knowing whether I was capable of creating it or not, or whether it would even be an appropriate layout for the “space” I was creating it around.

That being said, I decided to get a good solid understanding of what my concept was in order to allow me to realise the possibilities I could come up with to represent my concept.

A recap of my ideas:

I initially set out with the aim of creating a site that focused on white space and minimalism. I then decided to look into the idea of unimportant spaces or the notion of “reading between the lines” – looking closer at simple things and the spaces around them or between them.

So having thought about it, I decided to put everything that I had, all my ideas & thoughts, and combine them together to create a website that revolved around the exploration of “Spaces in between” which looks at things we see in our everyday lives and don't really pay much attention to.

concept redefined

Above are a few mock layouts. Going with the latest idea I proposed, the door acts as and entrance to a new space within the page. The pages within will then allow you to delve deeper and find out more spaces. The site will use various types of multimedia in order to enhance the features and purpose of the website.
